According to the recent report by China Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 149.72 million Chinese travelers visited overseas destinations in 2018, a 14.7% increase comparing to 2017, and spent $120 billion. China continues to be the world’s largest outbound source market. Considering that only 10% of the population own passports, and only 71.25 million Chinese travelers actually visited a foreign countries (78.47 million visited Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) which means only 5 out of 100 Chinese citizens have visited foreign countries in 2018, China market still has a lot of potential.

Ctrip.com, China’s largest online travel agency (OTA) recently released “Top 20 overseas travel source market cities in 2018” report. Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou are the top 3 source markets. Chengdu, Chongqing, Nanjing, Kunming, Wuhan, Xi’an, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Guiyang, Jinan, Nanchang, Hefei and Qingdao were ranked from 4th to 20th.
